Like a strong storm can rip a family and sometimes whole communities apart. Sometimes after the storm passes you notice a single tree that stood through anything that storm could dish out. A tree that has grown so deep and so strong that nothing could tear it down. I have seen and met a few of those trees. Just like a storm destroys everything in it’s path except the strong trees, you also have cancer patients who will not let cancer destroy them and their will to live! I have been lucky enough in my life to meet a few of those people, and blessed to have one in my family. This one would be my sister, Jean. After finding out 2 ½ years ago that she had cancer she did not let the storm destroy her, or her family. Like the strong tree, not only did she dig her roots deeper and grow stronger, but like that tree she held her ground and even protected some of the things around her like all of us her family and friends. She is the youngest of us but has been the root of our family since cancer has thrown everything her that it could, and made us all stronger. As a local b-ball coach said about his team, “I never had any hero’s when I was growing up but when you least expect it one comes along. Mine, and I’m sure I can speak for the rest of my family and friends, is my sister Jean. She is that tree that withstood the storms and has made us her family and friends stronger. We love you, Jean. So if and when that next storm hits, and you feel like it trying to knock you down you can lean back against us because you have made us stronger now too! Return to the top tributes page.
